VMware Tools re-install or upgrade creates duplicate VMCI Host driver in Windows 2016 server

I have noticed that if I re-install/upgrade VMware tools from the 64bit installer within Windows Server 2016 it creates an additional instance of the VMCI host driver in device manager.

The extra driver creates a Warning event  in the Windows system log = VMCI: Failed to create device (status=0xc0000035) Source vmci EventID: 2.

While troubleshooting the event, I removed and re-installed the VMware tools.  This created a third instance of the driver and a second instance of the System Log warning.

I noticed that the extra devices (displaying the Bang exclamation for not functioning hardware) showed in their properties window that the driver failed due to "duplicate name exists".

Workaround = In troubleshooting on a non-vital system, I right clicked and un-installed the errored instances of the VMCI Host driver (duplicates) and left the copy that the driver loaded correctly.

Upon restart the System log warning did not return and the normal VMware VMCI Host Device driver loaded normally.

Is this problem created by the VMCI Host driver being locked by the windows system during re-install/un-install?

Reason for the question is to possibly have the issue corrected in future revisions of the VMWare tools installer so manual removal of the erred drivers is not required.

When adding a vCenter Server to SkyLine collector, I'm getting the following error:

VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible

Hello, I have Windows 10 Enterprise on my PC. I recently enabled Credential Guard and Device Guard for fun. I heard they were new features for Windows 10 Enterprise. My problem started when, I wasn't able to open VM's on VMware Workstation Pro. It gave the error:

 

VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Workstation can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard. Please visit http://www.vmware.com/go/turnoff_CG_DG for more details

 

I tried the link and disabled "Virtualization Based Security" the same way I enabled it in the first place. Then I disabled Hyper-V in control panel. There's a bunch of CMD lines (from the link) I didn't use because it told me to use an "unused drive" and I don't know what that means...I tried C:. If I can get what drive to use figured out that might fix it, but I'll continue. I had geek squad remotely connect and try disabling it but they couldn't get VMware to run and got the same error.

 

Now, I decided to perform a clean install of Windows from my bootable Windows 10 Enterprise USB. After installing Windows, I installed VMware Workstation from a back-up on a SD Card. I installed a VM of Windows 8.1 Enterprise and started it up. Then I got the same error that "VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible." I went into gpedit and it says device guard is set to "not configured" like it was before I enabled it for the first time (off.) So how do I disable Device/Credential Guard so I can use VMware? Isn't it weird that it's still on after reinstalling Windows (clean) and shows up as "not-configured" in GPO? If I want to try the CMD lines from the VMware link (see above) what should I enter for the unused drive? I've got a blank SD card.

 

Please reply with how to disable the Guards so I can get VMware working. And what drive letter I should use in CMD (or an explanation of what that means.) Thank you

SRM 8.2 Failover test error after migration to virtual appliance

I have a client that recently had their vSphere environment upgraded to 6.7 u3 with external Platform Services controllers.

I just completed an upgrade/migration from Windows based SRM 6.5.1 to appliance based 8.2.

Everything looks good, however, when I run a failover test I get a customization error on the external PSC VM.

The error code is 255.

I found a document that says the tmp folder is blocked from execution. The document is for basic VMs, NOT a PSC appliance.

It gives instructions for changing the VMware tools conf file to use a different temp dir.

I am unable to find the file in the areas the document outlines.

Has anybody had this issue?

Know where the file lives?

Different fix?

Hi,

 

I am looking forward to add Additional Services into a firewall rule which is already existing.

 

Add-NsxSecurityPolicyRuleService-Rule $rule-Service$service

 

However, I am unable to get this completed and hitting errors errors like unable to convert the string to .XML format.

 

Any help please ?

Gmail Exchange client stopped working

My Airwatch Mail profile has stopped working.
The profile contains an Exchange ActiveSync setup, configured with my Exchange server host name.
When I start the Gmail app inside the Work profile on a mobile phone (Android 9.0), a message says: ' There is no connection to the server' .
But if I switch to ' Personal'  mode on the same phone, I am able to create the same Gmail Exchange account without any problems?
The setup has stoppede working for some reason.
Maybe an Airwatch security update has created this problem??

Symptom Filtering by OS

Is there any way to create a symptom or filter a symptom for a specific OS? The problem is I don't want the disk alerts to fire for Linux VMs but I do for the Windows VMs. I know I can create a custom group for Windows and do it that way, but is there any way to do it at the alert/symptom level?

Connect Hard Disk Info with Guest disk information

Looking for a way to get the hardisk item connected to the guest disk.  I would like to get a working solution to connect the harddisk info to the guest disk drive so I can set up automation to increase the hard disk size when the guest drive is out of space.   I started with a report from a different thread here that gets much of the info, but I can't see a way to get the free space of a particular disk lined up with its corresponding vmware harddisk item.  the $row.FreeSpaceGb item returns the freespace for all guest drives, as expected.....

Problems using the AD Plugin with the "embedded vRO" in vRA 8.0.1

Hello;

 

Desperately looking for guidance at this point but we'd be grateful for any assistance beyond that.

 

We're trying to leverage the AD Plugin using the "embedded vRO" integrated in vRA 8.0.1 to perform and duplicate certain Active Directory functions that we're using in vRA 7.6. 

 

To provide some context, we first successfully executed the out-of-the-box vRO Workflow "Add and Active Directory server" available in the vRA 8.0.1 Orchestrator. I've attached a few images along with a log file (errors) representing one of the actions we're aiming to complete using a newly-developed vRO Workflow. It appears as though we're unable to achieve the desired outcome in the Workflow because of suspected "missing" functionality in vRA 8.0.1?? Confirmation of this would be appreciated.

 

For the purposes of this particular posting, we're simply trying to "Destroy a computer" in AD by referencing the "adHostId" using previously-proven code with the vRA 7.6 Plugin.

 

Below is a brief description some of the discrepancies we were able to discover thus far:

 

1. The java call to the AD via the adHostId ("dunesId") is simply failing. See Log file error message "Unable to perform operation 'find('AdHost', 'null') on plugin 'AD'...."

 

2. For some odd reason the "static" Values of the Input/Output "Variables" do not appear to be used...as evidenced by the "null" entries within the Log file.

 

3. And finally, even when "manually" selecting the Active Directory Server directly via the plugin "Inventory", the auto-mapping of values via subsequent "Output Variables" do not take place...e.g. Type AD:AdHost (Not set).


Please advise if more info is required.

Cluster Stating License expired

Today I tried to add some ESXi hosts in to my ONLY cluster in my Data Center. When I do I get the error: License not available to perform process.  All of the hosts have the correct license.  When I check Licensing in the Cluster it tells me expired ( I have Standard purchased). When I click assign license all I see is Evaluation License. Which is bullpucky because Licenses under Assets under Clusters it shows the cluster with the Expired License. Why?

Hello Ground Control admins

I work for a hospital and I am looking for some guidance as I switch from Ground Control to Apple Business Manager and DEP.

 

Ground Control has a neat feature that displays department name and device number on the lock screen, example "SURGERY-001"

 

Anyone know how I can acheive the same effect without Ground Control? is there some sort of XML code I cam push to the device?

VMware vSphere Essentials Plus Kit installation on one physical server possible?

I am used to having at least 3 physical servers. - 1 vCenter server and 2 ESXi servers.  Can the Essentials Plus Kit be installed on one physical server?  The marketing video stated "3 2-processor virtualized server hosts".  Documentation states "hosts".  To me "host" means physical server.

 

In short, can I run the kit on one physical server?

Looking at deploying Exchange 2016 on our virtual environment and there are a number of big dependents to do this

 

CPU ratio 1:1 & Needs to be thick provisioned disk are probably the biggest

 

Has anyone here proceeded doing exchange 2016 in a virtual environment and can you provide me any assistance in this area?

Can someone post in a nutshell why i should be going to version 4?

 

My environment is hitting a hard wall where I can't upgrade view past 6.  Technically I could upgrade my connection servers to 7.10 or 7.11, but i would have to continure to use view agent 6 because that's the highest version view agent, a zero client tera1 chip will connect to.  I don't have App volumes but will start building that shortly and will have to go with 2.18 and not 4 because App Volume 4 is compatible with 7.10 and 7.11.

EFI FIRMWARE BOOT ORDER ISSUE

Hi

 

I'm trying to reproduce physical machine with two hard drives, one with Win10 the other with linux and dual boot

everything is ok dual boot works but when I set efi firmware boot order, everytime I boot on windows workstation is adding entries automatically to boot order and breaks it

I tried to deactivate it, remove it but still coming back and when VM is booting on Ubuntu entry if I select windows it say it can't find path of OS

but if I force to boot on (NSID 2) then it works.... Why is workstation adding those entries, how to remove it permenently? thanks

Unable to log in to Skyline Collector

I updated my collector to version 2.3.0.2 and I after the upgrade I cannot log in to the collector (http://skyline/login) as admin.

 

The admin password that was working before the upgrade didn't work, so reset it to 'default' and still doesn't work.  When I type the username and password I don't get any errors or warnings at all.

 

Also, when I log in to Skyline Advisor my collector shows as "inactive".  I've verified IP settings, DNS, and made sure the appliance has network connectivity.
