Hi everyone,
I work for the I.T. department in a Higher Ed. environment and we just got some ZeroClients this week we are going to be testing in the upcoming weeks. We have the Pano Logic client as well as the Wyse P20. We're all new to the concept of ThinClients and ZeroClients so I was hoping I could pick the brains of some more experienced users here. We are going to be deploying these with VMWare View 5.0, and we currently have VSphere 4.5, although we are planning on bringing that up to 5.0.
Just as an aside, we are a private institution, so we are going to have to keep cost in mind as we purchase.
We are liking the Wyse P20 so far, but we seem to be having some issues with videos, such as Youtube, being extremely choppy while full-screen. Is this a typical problem with ZeroClients and VMWare View? And if so, is it the image, hardware, or VMWare view most likely to be the culprit?
Also, with the Pano, our understanding is that in addition to View, we have to use the Pano Management Console. This seems very redudant, especially since we are definitely going to want VMWare View as our central management console. Has anyone found any good points/drawbacks to using Pano that might help us decide one way or the other?
Also, if anyone else uses and is satisfied with VMWare View on another form of ZeroClient, could you tell us what you are using, and what you like/dislike about it? We are really trying to take our campus into the realm of VMs on a very wide basis, but we're going to need to sell it up the chain relatively soon in order to do this for the next academic year, so I'd really welcome any input/expeirences you guys have had with VMWare View and any of the clients available on the market now.
Thanks a million!
