windows host, linux guest, vmware 8 guest network stops at random

I am a long time user of vmware, and have not had problems until now.  I have upgraded to vmware 8 (windows 7 64 bit host) and installed Debian 6.0.x linux as guest.   Everything works except the guest network (which is shared with the host) stops working every now and then.  I cannot get it to restart by /etc/init.d/networking restart.  I have to power off the guest and restart it, and then then network works fine again for a while and then it stops.

If (after the guest network stops working) I suspend the guest, and then re-start the vmware on the host and then re-start the guest image, the network still does not work.

It used to be (in earlier versions of vmware) that when you opened the Virtual Network Editor, you had an option to re-start the host NAT or VMNet8.  But there is no longer an option to do this.

Am I restarting the linux guest network incorrectly?

Thanks for any help or pointers to help.

Steve
