I have a 2 year old MacBook running Lion which I purchased from a reseller, who gets them as they come off lease. Apparently, batches of these came having their hard drives cloned, including several applications. Now I have purchased and downloaded from Apple Store another copy of Lion. I have also purchased VMware Fusion 4, installed Fusion and created a VM with the new download of Lion.
My intent in all of this is to do all my work inside the VM, providing another layer of insulation and easy recovery.
Here's my question: Since the MacBook's drive was cloned, how can I set things up so that the applications i need will run inside the Lion VM? Specifically,
1. Is there some way to move the applications from the host to the guest? I do not have the original app files or DVDs used to create the clone.
2. If #1 can't be done, is there some way to run the installed host apps from inside the guest VM?
3. If not, can I somehow recreate the Lion VM and instruct it to build or copy the guest VM from the host?
4. If not, can I somehow remove the current VM, clone the host (via carbon copy or super duper) to another drive or volume then restore new VM by somehow restoring the clone into the new VM?
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
