I am a newbie to ESXi and VMware Go. Just trying to educate myself and set up a new server. Ran into problems immediately. Bug?
1. Signed up for VMware Go, running that site from Windows 7 using IE 9.
2. Used VMware Go to discover on local LAN.
3. Used VMware Go to deploy "Install new hypervisor" to target machine booted up with Windows XP SP3. During prompts, first attempted a simple root password, but was scolded by installer it needs to be more complex. So then I provided a root password that is 11 characters long, containing upper case, lower case, number and special character "#".
4. Files get downloaded and copied over to target machine okay, can see activity and then restart.
5. Observe restart and ESXi load messages on console.
6. ESXi begins installation of ESXi with various progress messages in a yellow area in the lower half of the console screen.
7. A red message flashes (too fast to read) and a black "pop up" box overlays the installer screen with an error message:
error:/ks.cfg:line2: Passwords must be at least 7 characters long.
This is ESXi 5.0.0-469512 iso
Looks like I need to reinstall Windows XP to the target machine and try again with a different password? Or create my own iso installation disk (VMware Go is not building it correctly)? C'mon shouldn't be tripped up on something this stoopid!
