Adding page numbers into footer in Word 2003 crashes Vmware View Open Client

Hi,

I have a strange problem and I was wondering if you could help?

We started off with a Windows 7 Pro 32-bit baseline image and we used Vmware View Manager 4.6 to roll out linked-clones of this machine.  So far, so routine.

We have noticed, however, that if we take an existing Ms Word 2003 document or create a new one, when we try to insert page numbers (page number X of Y) into a footer, it causes the entire machine to freeze.  The freeze ranges from it being deathly slow until it stalls, to being able to move the mouse (which is now a vertical line) but not being able to click on anything to not even being able to use the mouse. Ctrl + alt + del seems to be locked out as well.  We have tested this using the Vmware client for Windows and we don't see the issue there.  The Windows Event Logs don't shed any light on the issue either.  I could see that the icon for Spell Check was moving as I typed so I thought that maybe Spellcheck was trying to check the contents of the footer as I typed and was running into difficulties but having disabled Spellcheck and Grammar check and restarting Word, the issue is still there.

Can anybody assist or point me in the right direction, please?

Many thanks,

Justin.
