RDSH App connectivity issue : No shared memory channel. Horizon client service may be down.

Hi all,

We have an RDS farm to allow some external staff to connect in, via a UAG to a few apps. For some reason the service stopped working, and now when we try to connect inbound from the internet, users see a black screen and the request times out. Connecting from the LAN it works fine.

The UAG seems fine (no authentication issue and desktop list populates in the horizon client). The error logs on the client machine (from appdata and \VDM folder) show a mix of errors as below (grouped).

We've tried using different protocol (in its working state PCoIP was the display protocol on the host), recovering the farm, restarting services, upgrading vmware tools etc to no avail.

Any suggestions on these? A google suggests that there's an AD issue looking up the computer account, and yes, I've read the vmware KB https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2083784 - any other ideas!!??

Hi,

I am trying to install a custom xubuntu ova to esxi 6.7 but I am getting an error with different browsers. Error says;

In the meanwhile vmkernel.log says;

ESXi 6.7.0 - VNIC / Physical Down/Down

Hi Guys,

I have a UCS server running ESXi 6.7.0. For whatever reason, my VMNIC2-5 will not physically come up. I have tried to SSH'n in to the box and shutting them down and restarting, but they remain down. I am currently plugged in to VNIC 2, from there in to my 9300 - as you can see, the port is down/down.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks.

Certificate Issues with UAG

$

Hey Folks,

I'm trying to set up a UAG (3.9.1) for my users. In our environment we use smart cards, so I am attempting to configure X.509 and it is failing. If the UAG is configured with Username/Password it works fine.

I have a cert from external CA in "crt" format. Following the UAG Guide and setting up SAML, I am trying to convert the cert to one line PEM format and I dont know if I am doing this correctly.

The doc says:

If your certificate is in PKCS#12 (.p12 or .pfx) format, or after the certificate is converted to PKCS#12 format, use openssl to convert the certificate to .pem files.

For example, if the name of the certificate is mycaservercert.pfx, use the following commands to convert the certificate:

openssl pkcs12 -in mycaservercert.pfx -nokeys -out mycaservercert.pem

openssl pkcs12 -in mycaservercert.pfx -nodes -nocerts -out mycaservercertkey.pem

openssl rsa -in mycaservercertkey.pem -check -out mycaservercertkeyrsa.pem

In my case the cert I received was in "crt" format from the CA, so I converted it to "pfx" format using openssl;

openssl pkcs12 -export -out certificate.pfx -inkey privateKey.key -in certificate.crt

Once the file was converted to pfx, I ran the commands as described above and created the 3 files. Then I converted them to one line PEM format as the doc says to do using the awk command.

However, when I went to configure the SAML settings in the UAG and uploaded the private keyfile I get the following error;

Invalid PEM format. Exception message: -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY not found

I checked the file in Notepad++ and it is clearly there. I even tried removing the trailing "\n" but it made no difference.

I even tried uploading the normal PEM cert files (I read somewhere recently that single single conversion is no longer needed). The UAG accepts them, but authentication still fails when attempting to log in. Checking the authbroker.log file in the UAG, I found this line...

Caused by: java.io.IOException: -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY not found

I'm kinda stumped at this point. Can anyone offer any advice?

How to assign the IP to the VM / vApp from the IP Pool?

$

Hi ,

I am new to the Vsphere ( v5.5). I have to assign the IP to the VM / vApp from the IP Pool. I have created the IP pool and assigned to the Vapp (with Transient/ Fixed ) but still I did not get the IP from the IP pool.  Shouldn't IP pool behave like a DHCP server in that it automatically assigns IP addresses automatically to the VMs in the Vapp.  Any one could you help me? Below is the overview of what I tried.

1) Create a vApp and move the VM to the vApp

2) Create a new network bridged with vmnic0

3) Create a new vlan 'vlan 10' and configure the new network to use vlan 10

4) Set up IP pool

5) Configure IP allocation policy in vApp - Transient

6) Enable vApp options in VM settings and then finally change the IP allocation policy on the VM.

Thanks,

Vidhya

Legacy VPP to Apple Business Manager Token

$

Hi,

We're having an issue to renew the VPP token from legacy VPP System to Apple Business Manager system.

The dedicated account we were using with VPP Legacy has been transferred to Apple Business Manager program.

Our UEM was set for years with the legacy VPP and we are trying to set the new ABM token except that when trying to renew the New ABM token (Under Settings > Apps & Books > My Server Tokens > Download the one corresponding to the location) then it is rejected when tried to be renewed with the following error message  in UEM : "Save Failed : Uploaded sToken is not the renewed version of the old sToken".

The deadline to renew the token was April 6th, so we decided to renew old legacy token with the "new" legacy token downloaded from ABM.

This worked and gave us 3 more weeks to find a nice conclusion on that.

Any token taken either from this dedicated account or from another Content Manager rights account will be denied by UEM with the same error message.

It seems that we will have to clear the token and renew it.

The only app which we have deployed so far in VPP is Intelligent Hub, which is also distributed to the same devices from Public Apps.

So even if we clear the token, and reimport a new one, we should not have any impact on our devices.

Did somebody face the same kind of issues ? Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Anton

Bonjour,

Merci d'avance !

Basic Installation Help

Hello,

I am trying to learn about vCentre and generally how it works.  To this end I thought I would work through an installation procedure.  So, using 6.5 I went about installing it.

I have a physical server on to which I’ve installed Windows Server 2012.  I’ve setup a domain and then have attempted to install the software.

I reach the bit where it asks for ESXi host or vCenter Serer name, I put into the this my new domain which I’ve created.  For credentials I’ve added the details of the administrator of the physical machine.

When I click next I see an error which states ‘Failed to get an SSL thumbprint of the target server certificate’

Any idea how I can resolve this please?

I am using the vCenter Server Appliance Installer.

I have VMware Workstation 15 Player installed on Windows 10 (64-bit).  When I attempt to launch (double click) on C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Player\vmnetcfg.exe, a window pops up with the following error:

"The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Player\vmnetcfg.exe."

Note that vmplayer.exe launches just fine from the same folder.

Also, the license is loaded and Help About displays the produce status as Licensed.

Hi,

Does any one know how I can get all ESXi Hosts within a vCenter that are in Maintenance Mode using Python SDK ?

Using the below Code I'm able to print out all the ESXi Servers. but not able to figure out only to print out the ESXi that are currently in Maintenance Mode

s.verify_mode=ssl.CERT_NONE

for hosts in data:

  si=SmartConnect(host=" ", user="", pwd="",sslContext=s)

  content=si.content

  defget_all_objs(content, vimtype):

          obj = {}

          container = content.viewManager.CreateContainerView(content.rootFolder, vimtype, True)

[vRA 7.6] Creating virtual SCSI controllers and virtual disks, and specifying SPBM for CloneWorkflow blueprints

$
0
0

I have a need to add virtual SCSI controllers and virtual disks to those controllers at time of deployment for CloneWorkflow based blueprints and being able to specify the SPBM (Storage Policy Based Management) to those virtual disks.

While doing my research I noticed that some of our blueprints where virtual disks were added would have "machine.properties" properties like so:

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.DeviceID : SCSI (0:0)

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.ExternalID : <id>

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.IsClone : true

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.IsFixed : False

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.Label : Hard disk 1

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.Name : Hard disk 1

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.Size : 100

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.Storage : <storage name>

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.Storage.Cluster.ExternalReferenceId : <storage id>

      VirtualMachine.Disk0.Storage.Cluster.Name : <name of storage>

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.DeviceID : SCSI (0:1)

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.ExternalID : <id>

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.IsClone : false

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.IsFixed : False

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.Label : Hard disk 2

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.Letter : /dev/sdb

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.Name : Hard disk 2

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.Size : 2

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.Storage : <storage name>

      VirtualMachine.Disk1.Storage.Cluster.ExternalReferenceId : <storage id>

The blueprint editor does not allow you to specify the virtual SCSI controller, hence all additional virtual disks are bound the the first/default controller in the template.

(1) Is it possible to change the value of "VirtualMachine.DiskN.DeviceID" to specify a virtual SCSI controller other than zero, e.g. (1:0), and have that controller created automatically? Obviously there would need to be additional properties to specify the type of controller, etc.

(2) If yes then what was the approach? Was it a matter of adding the properties to the blueprint? Part of the reason for asking is that the documentation on this family of properties (Custom Properties V) doesn't mention "VirtualMachine.DiskN.DeviceID". Is there another source of information for "VirtualMachine.DiskN.DeviceID"?

(3) Is there an easy/more direct way of specifying the vSphere SPBM policy or is custom coding the only solution? The "VirtualMachine.DiskN.Storage*" properties (Custom Properties V) refer to vRA storage reservation policies not vSphere SPBM.

(4) Also, the documentation doesn't explain "VirtualMachine.DiskN.Size" other than as a reference for the explanation of "VirtualMachine.Admin.TotalDiskUsage". Any other sources of information for this property?

Thanks in advance.
