Register vRA embedded vCO as vCenter Server extension?

Hi all - I have a dev vRA environment that I'd like to leverage the embedded vCO/vRO of in order to expose some workflows from within vCenter.

 

I've tried the process under "Register Orchestrator as a vCenter Server Extension" in documentation for vRO but not entirely sure what the URL would be considering it's an embedded vCO in vRA.

 

Any help?

 

I guess I could install a standalone vRO, register it to vCenter, register vCenter to it, and then still manage the vCenter from the embedded vCO but that gets messy and confusing.

ESXi 6.5 - maxView Storage Manager

Has anyone had any luck getting the maxView Storage Manager to work with ESXi 6.5.0 (Build 4887370)?

 

I've tried installing the latest version maxView Storage Manager v2.03.22476 vibs which either caused a PSOD or rendered the system into a totally unusable state.

 

I was able to get the 1.08-21375 version of the maxView vibs to install correctly however upon logging in to the maxView console, it states "No controllers were found in this system."

Horizon View - Connection server high avalability

Hello.


How i can achieve full high avalability for Horizon View

 

Currently i have :

2 connection servers,

In dns two entry  for same name with two different ip ( two connection servers)

eg. viewserv  192.168.1.2

eq     viewserv 192.168.1.1

 

Zero client terminal has set connection server name "viewserv"

 

And this is working fine, when one connection server is down, then clients are connecting to second.

 

But from Horizon Administrator panel if go put one connection server in state Disabled, then clients are connecting to server and displaying info that connection server is disabled.

And cant logon.


How to avoid it?

Path trace in vRNI without VMware tools

I have a couple live linux VMs without vmware tools I am using to test NSX. VRNI cannot do a path trace between them since VMware tools is not installed. I enabled IP Detection so at least I can use dynamic security groups with them. Can VRNI do path trace without VMware tools or do I need that? Is there some config option I am missing?

401 Error on New AppStack 2.14 Agent Install

Hi all,

 

Have any of you run into this error before after installing and rebooting a new agent:

 

Error from Manager X.X.X.X (error code 401):

Unable to authenticate computer or user account with App Volumes Manager. Please try to log out and back in. If the problem persists, contact your System Administrator.

 

Virtualization is disabled.

 

During the install I disabled the certificate check, and from the agent machine I'm able to log onto the manager admin page through Firefox with no issue. Checking the svservice logs did not yield any additional information.

 

The KBs I've seen around 401 issues are for legacy versions of this product, and talk about disabling NTLM. I tried going through those steps and it did not resolve the issue either.

After Skyline upgrade to 1.2, Failed to add NSX Manager

Get the following error with adding NSX Manager to the collector - Endpoint test failed. Error message: NSX endpoint test failed with HTTP error code: 403 and HTTP reason: Forbidden

I tried with an auditor account I set up, also tested with my administrative account just to make sure it wasn't a permission issue.  Is this a known issue?

Cisco LACP VDS multiple hosts

The documentation and videos seem to be all over the place to me so I thought I could create a simple enough example to get it straight.

 

Lets say I have 2 ESXi host machines and 2 network interfaces on each host and one physical switch

I also have one Distributed switch on all the VM's

 

What to setup on cisco?

Do I setup 2 port groups one for each vmware ESXi host?

or

Do I setup 1 port group and add all 4 ports to it?

 

What to setup on vmware?

Do I setup 2 LAGs one for each machine?

If I setup 2 LAGS does the Distributed switch get a LAG as its uplink and only need one uplink per machine?

or

Do I setup 1 LAG and add all vmnic interfaces to the one LAG?

And how would I set this up as uplinks on the Distributed switch?

 

The video seems to be too simplistic and the documentation doesn't seem to help me.

Raid 5 or 6 on esxi?

I happened to read somewhere saying Raid 5 or Raid 6 is not good for esxi6. The better choices are Raid 0, 1, or 10. Why? Can someone explain the reason? Thank you very much in advance!!!

Import / Export esxi network config for re-install or upgrade hosts

I am about to embark on a quite large host upgrade. We have 60-80 Vlan configurations. Typically I just run a script from the .csv file and it will import the vlans and switches. However , I still have to configure the physical adapters , iscsi etc. This is simple, but looking to streamline my process since I will be working with 300+ host. Just trying to work smarter. I have tried powershell scripts but doesnt seem to work. Is there a utility or application / fling that will back up my network config, and that I can push back out once my re-install / upgrade is complete on that host? Eager to hear the solutions.

SRM plugins not visible in the webconsole

Hi,

 

After installing the SRM 6.5 version, the plugins in the vCenter -- Home not visible . The only solution is restart the Web-Client or vCenter. With out rebooting it is not possible. Please suggest.

CORS support for javascript SDK

I am trying to run an AJAX call for verifying Vcenter credentials and read somewhere in the Javascript SDK:

### Browser

 

 

The browser samples launch a simple local server that hosts all required static

files and provides an HTTP proxy which is required due to the lack of CORS

support in the target services. Such a proxy is not needed when the samples are

hosted in the same origin as the API endpoint which is the case with the

official ESXi client.

 

Is there a way CORS support can be provided so that we can make Ajax calls?

Plugin issues when running in local Dev environment using Eclipse Virgo

I recently updated to 6.7 client SDK and my plugin is facing some issues when I run using localhost. The home page shows some issues while fetching plugins-icon.css file from VMWARE

 

Is there a known issue for the same? Has dev setup process changed or is different in 6.7 SDK as compared to 6.5?

 

In network tab, call to https://localhost:9443/ui/vropspluginui/assets/css/plugin-icons.css  returns 404 and below message shows in eclipse console logs

 

No mapping found for HTTP request with URI [/ui/vropspluginui/assets/css/plugin-icons.css] in DispatcherServlet with name 'spring'

Horizon 7.5, Persona Management and AppVol compatibility?

Happy Friday!

 

This week, we upgraded our View infrastructure from 7.4 to 7.5 and AppVol 2.13 to .14. Our linked clone desktop pools are Win7 and we updated the View and AppVol agents to the same versions as well. All desktops have been reprovisioned and are running the new agents.

 

We normally redirect folders (Desktop, etc.) with the Persona Management GPOs but they don’t appear to be working correctly after the upgrades.

 

Looking at the persona mgmt log files on the Win7 client system, it shows all the folders that it should be redirecting per our GPO so it looks like it’s getting the policy setting. If I grab the desktop from a console and run a ‘gpupdate /force’, log off and then log back in, the folders are redirected. We may be able to script this but haven’t had to do so before.

 

I just browsed the release notes notes for View 7.5 (after installing... d’oh!) and found a bullet towards the bottom of Compatibility Notes indicating that Persona Management isn’t compatible with AppVol.

 

Is this a typo or a real thing?  I know Persona Management isn’t compatible with Instant Clones but that’s why we’re still running Linked Clones for now.

vCenter 6.0 Issues

I'll preface this with the fact that my VMWare knowledge is very limited. I know how to use vSphere and connect to a host to make simple changes. The issue is, for one of our clients we have a vCenter set up and we have Veeam backing it up. Backups started to fail with authentication errors, so I tried connecting to vCenter via vSphere and received login errors as well. I rebooted the vCenter, and now I receive 503 errors if I try to login via vSphere or the web.

 

After searching online, I saw documentation saying this could be caused by the storage being full. I tried allocating more storage from the host, but the host is being managed by the vCenter I guess so it won't let me. I was able to access it by it's IP:5480 but it logged me out immediately every time. Connected to it via shell by editing the boot sequence and accessing shell, then resetting the root pw and setting it to never expire. I could then login and it alerted me storage was low there too. I enabled SSH and connected to it and checked it using df -h. It was using 100% storage, and it appeared most was coming from the storage/logs. I cleared it out using info from KBs and now I'm at 53% usage. I also ran an update from the 5480 page and now it says there are no more, the current version is 6.0.0.30500.

 

I saw a forum post mentioning that someone fixed it by upgrading it to 6.5. Well I downloaded the installer and attempted this, but it won't connect to it to upgrade it.

 

Also just tried this but it didn't work:

Unable to Connect to VCSA - Unknown Connection Error (503 Server Unavailable)

 

I still have the same errors, but I can access it via SSH. I confirmed the IP and the loopback are listed in the hosts file. I've restarted all the services I could find.. I've attached some screenshots and I also pulled the vm-support package but it's over 12 GB and I'm not sure how to get anyone access to it as this would take two weeks to upload on their network. I also have no idea how to read these so any insight on what I need to check here would help too! I feel like it might be a simple fix, but I've read through so many articles and forum posts and I have no idea what I'm missing here.

VVD 4.3 for vRA 7.4

Hello.  What is the ETA for the next version of VVD including vRA 7.4?  There are several advisories/CVEs recommending vRA 7.4 to remediate a couple of vulnerabilities, but 7.4 is not included in the latest VVDs.  Please advise.

Active directory authentication

I was trying to enable Active Directory authentication on my v1.2 skyline appliance.

It seems to take the settings (there is a weird UI bug on that settings page where I will change the values, Hit Save, and receive an error that nothing has changed on the page)

After applying the settings I attempt to login to the collector with a member of the AD group that I granted access and I get an invalid credentials error.

 

Does the appliance have the ability to connect to more than one DC?

Is there a log on the appliance I can look at to see what is preventing the auth?

Changing VW Language for Windows Text in Workstation 12

I've found other posts with this problem that had different solutions. At present all the language is in Italian, and I'm trying to get it to English.

 

It's an Italian version of the VMWare software which means that the default language is Italian. I tried the method of changing the folder name of the files in the "messages" folder in order to get the software to default to English after rebooting VMWare. It just defaults to Italian.

 

Worse still I find that in the desktop "messages" folder there is only Japanese and Mandarin while in the virtual windows VMWare "messages" folder there is no English folder. There are instead German (de), French (fr), Spanish (es), Italian (it), Japanese (ja), Korean (ko), Mandarin (zh_CN), Taiwanese (zh_TW). (I may be wrong about the languages indicated by the abbreviations, but there is no (en)). I'm not sure why the Italians who installed it would go out of their way to eliminate English as an option, but I don't see it there.

 

I've also gone to the Control Panel/ Languages/ to set everything to English. It was already set to it. "Formato" is set to "Inglese (Stati Uniti)"; "Localita corrente" is set to "Stati Uniti"; under "Cambia Tastiere" it's set to "Inglese (Stati Uniti) - Stati Uniti"; and under "cambia impostazioni locali del Sistema" it's set to "inglese (Stati Uniti)". Everywhere in the Languages Control Panel. There's also an icon in the lower right corner of the Virtual Windows desktop screen that reads "EN" with a "hover-over" message of "Inglese (Stati Uniti)". However, when I open the "Copia Impostazioni" ("copy settings") tab it opens to a window that shows what language everything is in listed as such:

So there is still some setting that might change the "display language" to English, but everything else is set to English without affecting anything, even the startup screen messages.

 

If anyone can assist me this would be helpful. There is actually another issue regarding this laptop's failure to recognize connected network devices, but until I can read the language of the laptop (without resorting to Google translate for everything), it's that much harder to troubleshoot.

Horizon View Desktop Pool with Duplicate DNS names

Hello!

I've been evaluating Horizon and created a desktop pool from a template but every VM has the same DNS name as the template! I've set up a guest customization and selected "use VM name as guest OS name" and "generate new security ID" but it does not look like this customization is being applied to any of the machines.  I have not sysprepped the template with sysprep.exe (I'm coming from Hyper-V where you are required to sysprep an image, not sure how to handle this portion on VMWare).

 

Also when I went in and removed a VM from the domain and then rejoined it with a new, unique name View Admin console deleted the machine and didn't generate a new one   Can anyone point me in the direction of a desktop pool with unique machine names?

Upgrade 6.0 VCSA w/external PSCs to 6.7

What pitfalls will I encounter by upgrading my 6.0 VCSA w/external PSCs environment to 6.7?

Can I leave my 6.0U3 esxi hosts at 6.0U3, or do I have to upgrade them to 6.7?

 

I currently have 7 hosts (esxi 6.0U3), a VCSA (Build number 4823866), and 2 external PSCs (Build number 4823866). The vShpere Web Client is Version 6.0.0 Build 6855238.

 

I am building 6 new hosts with esxi 6.7, and plan to migrate all our VMs from the 6.0U3 stack to the 6.7 stack. (Then I'll wipe the 6.0U3 stack clean, rebuild all the disk groups (since I messed them up when I first built it and have had capacity and congestion issues ever since), update those hosts to esxi 6.7, and use that stack for DR.)

 

I *think* my best course of action is to update my current VCSA environment to 6.7 and add the new hosts to the cluster; that way I can simply vmotion the VMs to the shiny new hosts, rather than mess with replicating and failing over.

 

Is this reasonable? What pitfalls will I encounter?
