Hi all, I'm now encountering a weird issue that the hosts lost connection persistently. I really need help for this issue. The whole system is mentioned as follows.

ESXi 5.0

2 hosts: HP Proliant DL380G7

iSCSI SAN storage: Netgear ReadyNAS 3100

4 virtual machines are installed separately in the hosts: Database server, Application server, Web server and vcenter server.

When this issue comes, I can see that the vmhba35 is down on both hosts and the hosts lose connections from iSCSI SAN storage. And from the "Recent Tasks", the virtual machines keep resetting by themselves. Though the vSphere shows that the virtual machines are running but I cannot access to them by remote desktop or console. After I reboot the hosts, then the system can run again. I wonder if this is an issue regarding Vmware. Please help! Thanks a lot!

I would like to deploy an ovf into my workstation for testing purposes. Is there any way to do that? When I try to import it, I get this:

It is a 2 VMs OVF (vcOPS). I tried creating the VM and adding the vmdks but there are so many OS errors during OS start-up that I think that maybe (hopefully) there's an easier way to do this.

I bought a server that came with "VMware vsphere 5 enterprise plus licensed for unlimeted number of vms" already installed on it, this was one of the old decomissioned servers with the software on it from what i recall....

1. Do I now own this software that came with the hardware it was on?

2. If so, Would this software be attached to only this hardware, or could it be wiped off the hardware and software reloaded on new hardware?

3. Or is it dependant on staying with the origional owner? can it be transfered from owners?

Just curious, I currently run esxi 5.1 on a newer system. this system i am talking about is an older server i want to sell and hence would like to know my legit legal options for leaving the software on there and selling it. Or possibly removing the license key and keeping it myself for use on a newer hardware server or simply deleteing it if i dont own the software :(. This is coming off an older power hungry, noisey sunserver that needs to be sold.

I have an OVA that have built and deployed via VIC many times successfully.  I am now trying to automate the deployment via the OVFTOOL.  However, I keep seeing this "transfer failed" message.  Is there some way to enable a more verbose output?

Stupid question

What is the difference between OVA and OVF; I've seen identical files with this 2 extensions.

Is it related with virtual hardware versions (OVA- VM 7, OVF- VM 4).

Windows 2008 Server R2 のサーバで、突然、ネットワーク接続が切れてしまう障害が起こりました。

　・ゲートウェイへのPing　・・・　NG

　・ipconfigでの設定値取得　・・・　正常

　・コントロール パネル\ネットワークとインターネット\ネットワーク接続　・・・　空白

　・同じホスト上の別VM　・・・　正常稼働

　・リンクランプ　・・・　サーバNICポート、接続先のスイッチポートどちらも異常なし

　・状況　・・・　通常運用中で特に設定変更やジョブの実行等、引き金につながるような変化はなし

VMの再起動(WindowsServerの再起動)をしても治らず、VMwareの再起動で治りました。

WindowsServerやVMware、接続先のスイッチのログには、当該時間、特に異常を示すような情報はありませんでした。

ログなどではっきりとした痕跡があれば、解決の糸口になりそうですが、それもなく、状況しかお伝えできず、非常に心苦しいのですが、

同様の現象に遭遇されたことがある方や、既知のバグなど、少しでも思い当たる情報をお持ちの方は、情報をご提供いただけませんでしょうか。

because of a mistake during configuration our vcenter URL for the web client was not working, and today I looked to get it fixed. There are several resources out there how to change FQDN in vcenter, but this did not really work well, especially re-registering with the Inventory Service failed all the time. So, we decided to kill SSO, Inventory service and web client and reinstall all things...

SSO, Inventory and web client seem to work again, as I can login via the web client to manage SSO and I can see the registrations there. Following the VM howto about how to re-register (repoint) vcenter, I came to a success message with the sso cmdline tool, but then when the server starts, it fails with the certificates still:

検証環境で新たにView 5.1を構築、Windows 8 Linked Cloneプールを展開したところ、下記のようなComposerエラー発生しました。

View Composer Fault: VC operation exceeded the task timeout limit of 0 mins set by the View Composer for VMプール名

■ 原因

Composerがレプリカー作成時、時間がかかり、タイムアウトになった為のようです。

KB2030047の説明だと、

• 展開するマスターイメージのファイルサイズが大き過ぎるか、
• 展開先のストレージパフォーマンスが悪いか

でこのようなComposerタイムアウト発生するとのことでした。

■ 解決方法

KB2030047の説明通り、Composerのタイムアウト値を増やします。（デフォルト60分）

それでも上記エラーが解消されない場合は、ストレージのパフォーマンスを確認、増強が必要とのことでした。

自分の場合は"①新しい検証環境" "②展開するストレージはView専用で他の用途での利用はしていない" ことから上記の方法では解消されませんでした。

再度確認してところ、展開するADのOUへの権限が設定されていなかった。 汗

といことで、展開先OUへの権限を設定し解消しました。

Recently, when starting any virtual machine, I got whole system (VMware's host) reboooted. Please help me!

I tested by restart VMware (/etc/init.d/vmware), backup and emtpy all log files:

/tmp/vmware-thepostman/vmware-player-xxx.log

/var/log/vmware/hostd.log

and try to start a virtual machine, but there isn't sigle new entry was recorded in those log files (checking after system booting up).

The same with message log file.

My system:

CentOS release 6.3 (Final) - Linux thepostman 2.6.32-279.22.1.el6.i686 #1 SMP Wed Feb 6 00:31:03 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Hw: Proliant DL580 - G5.

All virtual machine located on internal hard disks.

We are gearing up to deploy a new VMWare environment. Until now, i have always used physical boxes and NICs have not been a problem and I've mainly played with the free versions....

This time were going paid.

We have Dell blades to use with pass through modules, with 5 network cards per blade, all Broadcoms running at 1GB pass through to 2 physical HP switches (no switches in the blade chassis).

I'm trying to work out the best use of the network cards

We will have 3 hypervisors with a iSCSI SAN.

I was thinking:

2 NICS (Active / passive 1 to each of the 2 switches) for storage

2 NICS (active / passive 1 to each of the 2 switches) for VM Network and management

1 NIC vMotion

I could add a 6th NIC in to allow 2 NICS to each service (active / passive to each of the above)

I would love your thoughts on my idea, as i can see a few ways to do it, and im not sure what would be the best

I have a problem with integration of ThinApp-ed Adobe Reader and Outlook 2010. If I try to send pdf document via adobe reader I get error No Outllok profile can be found. I have linked Adobe Reader and Outlook via OptionalAppLinks in package.ini.

ThinApp version is 4.7.3. Isolation mode is default merged, file system and registry.

Any ideas how could get AR to retrieve outlook profile info?

I have been having a couple problems that seem to be intermittent.

I have a number of templates that I use to deploy VMs from. I have only recently upgraded to Enterprise Plus and have configured Storage DRS.

I have now have a wonderful issue when I deploy some new VMs (not all). This has now happened twice.

I deploy a new VM from a template and as part of the process I select where the new VM will be located. I click on the Storage DRS group to allow Storage DRS to detect the best datastore to place the new VM. 

The problems arise when I attempt to deploy another VM from the template. I get an error message that tells me the .vmdk file in use by another VM and is locked.

I go back to the last VM that I deployed and check the hard drive that is attached to it and yep..... instead of a new .vmdk being created its simply built a new VM and has used the templates .vmdk.

This causes a massive issues for me, if it isn't picked up straight away, then whoever has received the new VM is now modifying my templates .vmdk.

I can also no longer deploy any more VMs because the templates .vmdk is locked.

Currently Storage DRS is set to manual, this is only because its recently been configured and I want to make sure that it doesnt' automatically move something that I havent' configured it not to.

When i provision a new VM, I get a screen that pops up that asks me to allow Storage DRS to make the following changes in order for the new VM to be provisioned. I can only think that this manual Storage DRS has some issues and when it fails to clone the template disk it might default to just simply using it directly?

This has only happened since Storage DRS has been implemented.

I haven't logged a job with VMware yet, I figured I'd ask here first and see if it was a known issue and/or easy fix.

I just downloaded the latest Onyx but I am not seeing any output when connecting to my virtual centers using either powercli or the VIclient.

I have connected to the Vcenter and hit start.  Anything I can check for?

after upgrading Hyperic HQ from 4.5.1 to 4.6 we discovered that agents on platform CentOS stopped collecting the load-average.

Database-Values for measurement are always "0.0000" since then.

Agents on other OS behave normal.

I am now trying to update my vShield manager according to this new config without any success (Settings & Reports/vCenter Server Configuration).

What port my vShield manager is using to contact my remote vCenter ? 443 ?

I have been presented with a conundrum.  Migrating to vSphere5 and a new EMC storage platform, should I suggest leveraging:

- EMC FAST-VP across large high performance VMFS5 extents for as many machines as possible?

- Not using FAST-VP and leveraging Storage DRS and Storage Profiles instead?

- Is there a performance hit on ~60TB VMFS5 extents?  The less LUNS to track the better.

It makes sense to me to either optimize storage tiering at either the SAN or VMWare level, but not both.

I know there are questions you will have for me, please, ask away.  Much appreciated.

Please bear if this is a noob question. But I'm new to vCloud Director. I was going through all the official documentation for deploying and managing VMware vCloud director. But no where I found topic on User requesting additional resources through web portal and its approval process. Does this requires any integration or possible only with vCloud director itself?
