Trying to upgrade VMware Tools via VUM and running into the 'Session 0/Interactive Services Detection' issue described in detail here: http://www.thelowercasew.com/issues-updating-vmware-tools-with-update-manager
I previously had this issue on VUM 4.1u1 and opened an SR with VMware who promptely informed me that 2008 R2 is not supported with VUM 4.1u1.
Looking at the release notes for VUM 4.1u2 - Server 2008 R2 is now supported, however I'm still having the same issues after upgrading VUM. I've opened another SR, however, I'm not getting very far with it.
I can't be the only person trying to upgrade VMware Tools using VUM in a Server 2008 R2 environment - has anyone else successfully found a proper solution to this? I know there are some workarounds that I've had mixed success with (changing the tools service account, etc.), but I'm looking for a permanent fix as I need to automate the upgrade of nearly 1000 virtual machines and I'd like to use VUM to do it rather than a custom solution using PowerCLI, etc.
Appreciate any responses, thanks!
