Hi,
I've set up an cluster of 16 ESXi v5 hosts, created some virtual machines and enabled HA + DRS + DPM. I've verified that DPM can properly resume ESXi host from standby (HP ILO). When all VMs are powered off, all but 1 ESXi hosts are on standby and all is well. As soon as I power on and put some load on test VMs, additional ESXi host are being started (9) and VMs runs just fine, however I get the "Insufficient resources to satisfy vSphere HA failover" critical warning on cluster (7 hosts are still in standby and DPM is not trying to wake them up).
How is this possible? I have all the defaults for HA (1 host failures to tolerate), DRS and DPM (automatic). Shouldn't DPM be smart enough to ensure proper HA if he has enough additional hosts in standby?
