ESX configuration with Citrix XenApp Servers

Hi

I have three x 4 CPU/10 core servers in a ESX cluster. The servers each have 40 Hyperthreading cores in total.

On each of the servers we are running a combination of web servers, database servers and citrix xenapp servers. In general the current config says

each XenApp server has 24gb of ram and 8vcpu.

each Web Server has 4gb of ram and 2vcpu

each Database server has 8gb of ram and 4vcpu

There are lots of threads/processes running on the XenApp servers which is why we gave them lots of vcpu's. Also when the servers were in a physical environment we had a similar config. The database servers are basic Windows File Sharing machines but also have a high workload

My question is of Citrix and Terminal servers in general, what is the optimium config. I have read that prior to esx 3.5, single vcpu was optimal but that is not the case anymore.

Already we are highly undercommitting the virtual cpu -> physical cpu (some 30 vcpu's versus 40 pcpu with hyperthreading. Is this a concern or should we be running 2vcpu on the citrix servers. Will all the physical resources be consumed if we dont have as many vcpu as pcpu?
