Hey guys,
I have an odd problem. I have an issue where when any client is sending files to my guest servers, the network transfer speeds are only about 1.0-1.5MB/sec when we should at LEAST be getting 7-12MB/sec. Here's the setup:
100MB network
3 VMs running on a server, 12gb ram, xeon 2.6 proc
Nics are 2 x Intel Pro 1000 onboard (only one in use on mgmt network)
Transfers have been tested from client Mac computer to FreeNAS server, to Win2k8 server and back over both wireless and wired and the same problem.
If copied on local guest vm to itself, it's fast, the same as between W2k8 VM and FreeNAS vm is is 90-100MB/sec, so the disk subsystem looks ok in my mind. It's only once it leaves the host that this issue happens. Client PC to client PC is fast as well. On the W2k8 vm I have tried messing around with the nic adapter settings (auto negotiation, large buffer etc etc etc) but no luck. The issue happens from mac client to FreeNAS as well on AFP shares so it doesn't look like a sofware thing.
Is there anything in the Vmware Hypervisor side of things that I should be aware of?? I was thinking of just installing an aftermarket NIC and trying that out if there were any issues with the onboard nic. I THINK it's HW related as the previous hypervisor was ProxMox (Open Source) and having a similar issue.
Thanks in advance!
Andrew
