Hi all,
I have a Windows 2003 server that I want ot convert to a VM. The hardware it currently runs on will then run the ESXi hypervisor.
Currently the Windows 2003 system runs from a HDD, although the ESXi Hypervisor will run from a USB. The Hyperviser has been set up but obviously at the moment we cant simply convert the running Windows 2003 system to the Hypervisor.
What the best way to convert the system? Just use the Convertor to move the Windows live system to a VM Worktsatoin 7/Server 2, or other platorm, then when the Hypervisor is up load the converted machine to that, or is there a better way?
In addiiton, the current hardware has a a RAID card that contains a large RAID array partitioned as a GPT disk. This disk is used to only store data rather than the WInsows system files so I don't want this included in the VM. So, why does VM Converter 5 fail simply because there is a GPT disk in the system to convert, even when I don't actualy wan that disk to be part of the converted VM. Oddly it appeears as though the ealier version of VM Convertor (4.3) actually works in this instance as it fails to recongnise GPT disks. Why can't VM Convertor 5 at least give the option to ignore the GPT disk? Surely this is something that needs to be looked at by VMWare?
Cheers
