Sorry for the Noob question: VMware Workstation has the option to virtualise a physical machine, why does vsphere not? It seems a strange ommision.
There is a free product called "VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.3", but as we dont have vCenter, this is not much use.
Can we use vmware workstation 8 to virtualize them, then put them into vSphere 5?
Is there anyway to do the virtualisation from the actual vsphere server, which is in the data center with the machines which need to be converted, rather than from our local office via vmwware workstation or some other tool local, as this will kill the bandwith into and out of the DC. We could go to the DC, and plug in a laptop with workstation installed, but there must be a more elegant solution?
