Hi,
We are currently trying to certify Cisco UCS running on VMWare so that we can receive SNMP traps into our CA Spectrum environment. To test that we were receiving our traps correctly, we pulled out the power cable on one of the power supply.
Unfortunately, we didn't receive any alarms coming from ESXi. Even in the Configuration tab of the vSphere client, there were no mention of a problem on the power supply. To confirm the sensors were working properly, we verified with the Cisco Integrated Management Controler (some sort of iLO) and lo and behold, the sensor was reporting the power supply as not working.
Now we had two situation happen. First, ESXi never sent any SNMP traps whatsoever. Since it's a lab environment, I decided to reboot the server to see if things would be any different. We replugged everything, waited than unplugged a power supply.
Again, I had no traps whatsoever in ESXi but CIMC was seeing the power supply as not working. We were trying to see if something wasn't configured properly than 30-45 minutes later, the trap appeared. Finallly.
Does anyone know why it took that long or if there is anything we can configure to shorten the time frame? Anyone know why I didn't receive anything before I rebooted the server? I did not change anything in the configuration on either ends.
