VMware Workstation 8.0.2 is crashing the entire display of my host computer. This is using a brand new Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit VM on an Ubuntu Linux 10.04 32-bit host. Three times today, while actively working with TurboTax 2011 in the VM, the VM display has done a few sudden "flashes." After this happens several times, the VM display becomes garbaged (smeared graphics) and the host display freezes. The host is up (I can SSH into it), and the mouse pointer can still be moved with the mouse, but nothing on the host console responds to mouse clicks or keyboard. Eventually I am forced to kill VMware Workstation (via SSH and "kill -9") or reboot the host computer.
I have reported this as a support issue to VMware (SR 12144364502). Anybody else encounter and/or solve this?
The host has plenty of RAM (8GB) and the guest has 1.5 GB and one two-core CPU. The latest VMware Tools is installed on the guest.
My graphics card is an MSI 8600GTS 256 Meg 2 DVI PCIE.
CPU is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz.
Any tips appreciated. A vmware.log is attached. (The final line, "signal 15," is my "kill -9" to terminate Workstation.)
Thank you.
