Trouble with Proprietary Application functions

Hello all. I am hoping someone could shed some light on my situation here.

The application I support is a Document Managment application. There are 3 major components to this suite. Server side application, License Server application and Client applications.

A quick rundown of the functions of each app...

Server = Houses the Databases that are created for content. Central Location. Administrer users access. Integrates with AD. This installs a service called Auserver.

License Server = Responsbile for handling all Licensing for the product. Server and Client access licenses. This installs a service called LicenseServer.

Clients = Access to licensing and Server controlled databases.

Now before i continue, There are no problems with this application running on a physical machine(s). We have only seen this problem running on VMWare ESX servers. We dont know if this happens on any other flavor of VMware.

Customers have been opening trouble tickets explaining that the clients are not getting licenses distriubuted properly. Here is what we have concluded so far...

  • The communication between Auserver and LicenseServer seems to have been disrupted.
  • The Services need to be restarted to start functioning again.

Questions and facts...

  1. Why is this only happening on ESX? What is it doing to the network layer of the guest OS to disrupt communications between these services?
  2. All VRS options are disabled. They are not used in these environments.
  3. These services communicate on TCP 9090. Is there something in VmWare that uses this port?
  4. All guest power options are set to Always ON. Hibernation is disabled. Standby is disabled.
  5. Is there something else about the network in ESX that could be causing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
