I have virtual environment includes few ESX servers running Vspher5,
The ESX server dose not including any internal hard disks, all the servers are connected to Netapp storage using FCP and all virtual servers are running from the Netapp storage.
All virtual servers are using VMFS only without RDM connection, Part of the servers are running small SQL servers that are used by the application installed on the server.
I need to supply Disaster recover solution for the Environment, for that I’m going to use Netapp snapmirror and SRM.
My question is how should I backup the virtual servers a that are running SQL? Running Snapmirror for the ESX volumes will backup the virtual environment but the SQL may not be consistent. The other solution is to use Netapp SQL snap manager, but this solution will be costly and complex and keep in mind that the SQL is being used by the application installed on the server (like VC for example) and it is not used for high performance data base.
What should be the solution in such a case ?
