ESXi 5 install as a VM

So I am trying to install ESXi 5 as a VM for a class I am taking on my HP laptop. I have an Intel(R) core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5800 @2.00GHz.  4GB of RAM and am running windows 7 64bit.

I know for a fact that this particular laptop is not on the HCL list. I can begin the install as a VM via Workstation 8.0.1 using an ISO image of ESXi 5. As the install proceeds I get to a page where it is loading modules and the bard on the top of the page is getting increasingly bigger. It then looks like it is finished and gives me a message:"reloacting modules and starting kernel" and stops there.

I have done a little research of why these problems happen and one of the answers was HCL and the other was to change my on-board memory from 1MB to 8MB. So I can't access my on-board memory via my BIOS.

Am I going to be able to do install this via a VM on my machine or am I SOL?
