I have successfully updated vCenter to 5 and have my first ESXi host also running 5. For the most part it was a pretty easy upgrade. Now I have two other hosts are that still running 4.1 and all of our VM's are running on those hosts. Per the upgrade doc, then next step is to upgrade the VMware Tools for each VM. Nearly all of our VM's are running Windows 2k8 or 2k3.
The problem I have is in vSphere Client 5, when I attempt to upgrade the tools, it throws an error that the tools are already up-to-date. I'm not sure what the current release is, but I'm showing version 8.3.2 build 257589 installed. If I attempt to vMotion one of these VM's to the ESXi 5 host, it err's stating the virtual hardware is incorrect.
The specific error is "The version of VMware Tools installed in the virtual machine is already up-to-date"
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Josh
