Kernel Panic - PLEASE HELP! VMWare ESXi 4.1 Update 1

Hi everyone,

I got myself into a predicament whilst trying to delete a snapshot (only  one running on that VM) belonging to a VM on an ESXi 4.1 Update 1.  here's the scenario

1. Ran backup copy of VM in question
2. Shut down VM in order to take snapshot
3. Snapshot Manager didn't execute 'delete' command instead the follwing  message was displayed in the 'recent tasks' window: Snapshot  Configuration not recognized
4. VM couldn't be brought back up --> Unable to locate specific file
5. Upon checking datasore I realized that .vmx and .vmxf files were missing
5. .vmx and .vmxf file recreated using separate VM as template --> VM  able to power up again but didn't boot properly, i.e. kernel panic  message displayed, indicating that the root couldn't be mounted -->  follow this link to view sreenshot: http://www.bilder-space.de/show_img.php?img=5e0e14-1323965921.png&size=original

Basically, all I did was to power down the VM. No files in the data  store were altered (only added abovementioned ones after crash).  Therefore it seems to me that some files or configuration within  specific files are needed to fix this problem???!!! Perhaps the .vmx or  .vmxf file needs to be readjusted?!

Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Kata
