We have 3 training labs with 12 workstations in each lab. Typically we have no more than 2 labs occupied at one time, though theoretically it is possible that we would have such a circumstance. I use virtual XP machines running various applications and users log in with ID's that corrospond to their location; OU1-12, RIC1-12 and MR1-12.
I have created an Automated, Linked clone pool. I selected to automatically assign desktops and, to allow the profile to be saved for the user, I chose dedicated over floating. Initially I gave the pool 18 desktops. We had one class where all of the OU1-12 users logged in and created profiles. When users log in as RIC1-12, will the idle desktops (not in use but assigned to OU1-12) be used or will the first 6 get a desktop and the rest not be available? Do I need 24 or even 36 desktops?
We had been using a Floating assignment and managed to not have any problems except users became frustrated when they lost their Windows profile(s). Maybe I'm just missing something obvious. If so, forgive my ignorance and please explain.
